St Andrew's Centre
A space for our community
Work began on the St Andrew's Centre in April 2013 when we closed the doors to the old church hall and commenced the transformation. The Dedication of the Centre took place at St Andrew's on Saturday 30 November 2013, led by The Bishop of Hertford, The Right Rev Paul Bayes. The community facility is now being used and enjoyed by a variety of groups.
On this page you will find information about hiring the space, which is situated behind St Andrew's Church, close to Hertford's town centre. Also there are details about the Hertford St. Andrew Community Trust (HStACT), the charity formed to oversee the running of the Centre.
Please go to the bottom of this page to find links to more information, including our long-standing vision for the St Andrew's Centre, the progress that was made during the building project and some of the events that have since taken place.
How do I find the St Andrew's Centre?
The Centre is tucked away behind St Andrew's Church on St Andrew Street, Hertford. As you approach the Church from the street, follow the path around to the back of the Church (on the right) and you will find the main entrance to the Centre there.
St Andrew's Centre:
information and bookings
The St Andrew's Centre is made up of a number of spaces, which can be used separately or all together. There is a large hall, which can be split into two spaces, and a small meeting room upstairs (The John Summers-Gill Room). There is a large kitchen, two disabled toilets and also an art/utility room. The projector, screen and sound system, with loop, in the main hall are ideal for use with meetings and presentations, plus Wi-Fi is available. The Centre also benefits from two separate entrances, which means that it is possible for different groups to use the Centre at the same time.

The HStACT Mission Statement:
"We're here to do everything we can to encourage, enable and engage with well-being
throughout our community in and around Hertford."
The project to create the St Andrew's Centre has had at its heart the desire for Hertford St Andrew to improve the well-being of people around it. To do this, our aim is to add to the range of activities that already exist and do them in a more structured way, in partnership with voluntary and community organisations, and by publicising them more effectively.
The extended, altered and refurbished Parish Hall and Vestries is now known as the St Andrew’s Centre and the Hertford St Andrew Parochial Church Council (PCC) has established a charitable organisation as the focus for the operations of the St Andrew’s Centre. The Hertford St. Andrew Community Trust (HStACT) is responsible for the ongoing running and maintenance of the Centre now the project is completed.
The Trust has had many informative discussions with local community groups and charities that work in the fields of mental health, support for carers, day-care for the elderly, bereavement support and counselling. We are doing what we can to accommodate many of these groups alongside some of the activities that we are already involved in.
More information about the Trust, and the Trustees, can be found here.
